BELGIAN RATTLESNAKE @ CAGE MATCH 7/1

This is shameless self promotion, but I don’t care. Ever since I started improv last year, I never expected to be in Cage Match, let alone even be on an indie team and to know so many wonderful people in this community.

For those who don’t know, I started improv to kill some time…. to meet new people in NY… to try something new… to know that I would fail, but to never stop trying until I succeeded. Little did I know by doing that, I was starting something that would forever be a part of who I am and who I will forever be.

Now many of you have heard of Belgian Rattlesnake (mostly through Facebook invites I’m sure), but I can never fully explain how much I love this team and what it means to me.

Formed out of my first ever practice group, a handful of us wanted to take it a step further and start performing. I feel very lucky having been asked to be a part of it. I’m probably super partial to B.R., because it is my (and several other teammates) first team. That in itself is a bond that’s hard to break and has lead to life-long friendships.

I’m rambling at 5 a.m., but Belgian Rattlesnake is special to me. After our first show at the Parkside Lounge, I could have been asked to leave the team and still would have been happy with what we had accomplished. Like all of the improv community, we make stuff up on stage… some of it is bad, some is good, some is shit and some is breath taking… no matter how it turns out, we are all willing to go on stage and do it time and time again… to take that chance, make the choice and to roll the dice. To have each others backs and to know that if I have a jet pack in a scene, my teammates will be quick to pick me up on their shoulders. There’s something special about that to me, something that I can’t fully describe.

Ha. I started this post just to let people know that my team is in Cage Match, but once I started typing I couldn’t stop. Anyway…

My best friends in this world are Etan Bednarsh, Raymond Cordova, Rachel Crouse, Angela Dee, Shannon Taing & Brian Witte… and together we are Belgian Rattlesnake!

If you get a chance, come and check us out July 1st @ 11p for Cage Match @ the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City, NY.
